This Device is often used when Multiple 120V INPUT Power Sources are present as seen in any combination of Solar Inverter, Generator, and/or Shore Power Power Sources. Automatic Transfer Switches are most commonly seen when using your OFF-Grid Solar Inverter into to Power a RV's 120 Fuse box and standard house outlets but sill wanting the option of plugging in your Shore Power Plug when that option is available.
(Note: In some cases people can get around needing this device in 3 ways: 1) By simply plugging the Shore Power Plug directly into the Inverter, 2) Using a Charger/Inverter with AC Priority or disconnecting the Breaker from the House Outlets to tie back into the Inverter with the understanding the system will be limited by the Inverter even when on Shore Power.)
